The Devil Who Went to Heaven: Dark Fables of Angels

About

The Devil Who Went to Heaven: Dark Fables of Angels is a collection of short stories that reimagine angelic mythology through a fresh, humanistic lens.

Follow Pheriel, a fallen angel bound to a Victorian woman determined to escape the confines of her femininity. Walk with Satan, the trickster who tempts mortals and angels alike, only to uncover the horrifying truth of his own origins. Witness Tzyeriel, the handsome, yet innocent angel whose love brings an end to the kingdom of Hell.

These tales dare to ask: What if Satan and Lucifer were not the same angel? How would Heaven battle a plague that ravages angels? Could even the mighty Archangel Michael fall to temptation?

May appeal to fans of John Milton’s epic storytelling, Terry Pratchett’s wry humor, and Clive Barker’s dark imagination.

Please be advised that this anthology contains scenes of graphic violence and queer sensuality.

This is the third book I’ve read by Zwahk Muchoney, and it did not disappoint! The Devil Who Went to Heaven is a collection of dark, myth-like stories about angels, demons, and the thin line between good and evil. The writing has a poetic, old-school mythology feel, but it’s super easy to get lost in.

The fables follow different celestial beings—like Satan, who’s more than just a villain, and Michael, the ultimate warrior of Heaven. There’s also Jophiel, the angel of beauty, and a heartbreaking love story about Tzyeriel, an angel who manages to melt the devil’s heart. The stories explore power, love, redemption, and what happens when the divine and the damned collide.

It’s dark, but not over-the-top, and the mix of action, romance, and deep themes kept me hooked. The book makes you question what you think you know about angels and demons. If you love mythology, forbidden love, or just a fresh take on Heaven vs. Hell, this one’s a must-read.
